Substantial Grant is Earmarked for the Mountain Bike Program

Earlier this month, funding through a Capacity Building grant with Department of Children, Seniors and Social Development was announced. This $7750 is earmarked for the Mountain Bike program which is spearheaded by Andy Poole, a teacher at Holy Cross School. The funds will be used by Mr. Poole to create a resource for municipalities, recreation groups and schools to help them include mountain biking into their communities - putting our program on the map for pioneering this guide.

Today, Mr. Poole, along with Deputy Mayor William Duffitt and Councillor Kim Powell (also representing Eastport Peninsula Recreation & Wellness Committee) were joined at council, by MHA Colin Holloway, where he presented the group with a cheque.

It was a pleasure, today as always to chat with MHA Holloway. Today's discussion around the biking program and other exciting initiatives in recreation and wellness, clearly show the Town of Eastport, and the Eastport Peninsula is well on it's way to providing residents and visitors alike, ample opportunity to lead active, healthy lifestyles year round.

Thank you to the Honorable Lisa Powell-Dempster, Minister for Children, Seniors and Social Development and MHA Colin Holloway for your support.

Eastport is located in Central Newfoundland on the Eastport Peninsula. It can be pinpointed on the border of the Terra Nova National Park. Just 18 minutes from the Trans Canada Highway and only one hour from the nearest airport you'll find stunning scenery, beaches and history.
